On Hiatus

Right after convention season seems rather poor planning to take a break from Galaxion, but unfortunately that's they way it goes this year. The summer was busy and I had a difficult time finding time to work on Galaxion, which meant I was slowly using up my ready pile of finished pages. Personally, I hate working week-to-week, always feeling the pressure of a deadline. I'm much happier having a comfortable margin of error, which for me would be several weeks worth of work done and loaded, so I don't have to panic if I get sick or something. So until October 2nd, there will be no new Galaxion pages posted. I'll still be working hard in the meantime, though! I can see the light at the end of the Chapter Two tunnel, and I'm looking forward to reaching it.

You can also check in at GirlAMAtic for some "filler" art, drawn by my Galaxion partner-in-crime Wendy Linkous, posted every Tuesday as usual for the next several weeks. And I'll have some guest art to keep everybody happy and fill out the rest of the Tuesdays until my break comes to an end. I'll also probably post some teasers and other sketches from time to time, which you'll be able to find in the Extras page.

Thanks for your patience!

Summer Conventions

I wish I could say I'll be traveling to distant comic and book conventions all around the continent, but alas, this year I am confined to Toronto. Having said that, though, there are a couple of good ones coming up in August.

The Toronto Comic Arts Festival (otherwise known as TCAF), hosted by Toronto's great comic shop The Beguiling, will be held August 18 and 19, 2007, at the Old Victoria College building and the Burwash Quad on the University of Toronto Campus by Museum subway station. This show only happens every other year, and I attended as a fan in 2005-- I'm really looking forward to being able to set up there as an artist! Like SPX in Baltimore and APE in San Francisco, this show is going to highlight the non-Marvel-and-DC comic creators, some of whom will be strictly small press such as myself, and some of whom are world-renowned. There will be a section for kids, and many signings, panels, and other events in grand festival style. Best of all, it's free!! How can you say no to that?

And then, August 24-26, is FanExpo Canada, which will be the polar opposite of TCAF in every conceivable way. This is a big show, held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, and has five different components: the Comic Book Expo, the Science Fiction Expo, Festival of Fear (for horror fans), the Canadian National Anime Expo, and the Canadian National Gaming Expo. Some big-name guests are expected to make an appearance as well, such as Hayden Christensen from Star Wars episodes 2 and 3, Sean Astin from the Lord of the Rings movies, Jonathan Frakes from Star Trek: TNG, and many others to get excited about. Unlike TCAF, this one costs (kids are free, though). But it's worth it for the spectacle!

And, while you are here, the Bibliography page isn't "coming soon" anymore; it's arrived.
